The Sudanese community was also one among the many that found a home in Praxis. Starting from 1996, for two decades Sudanese scholars, activists and other members of the diaspora met at Praxis every month to talk about the human rights situation in their home country, still in the grip of a dictatorship, and how to support diplomatic efforts in the diaspora.
Meeting at Praxis, were so many other similar groups were also based, enabled each group to learn about the issues other people were facing. Praxis facilitated meetings between the Eritrean and Sudanese London communities: these two groups, coming from neighbouring countries, began to advance what they called “democracy of the people”, breaking away from the dictatorial and hostile approach that usually characterised relationships between the two neighbouring countries.
