Recipes of Life is a cookbook created by GIANTS- our peer-led group for men who have migrated and who are advocating for better mental health support. It’s packed with delicious recipes and stories of migration and brotherhood.

Food allows us to connect, to share our cultural heritage, to express our love and care for each other. Recipes of Life was developed by each GIANTS member cooking a meal for his brothers. Together they shared the meaning behind the meals and stories of home. With open dialogue, support, and a lot of good food, the cookbook was born!

GIANTS IS A FAMILY

GIANTS is a dynamic interactive, compassionate, self-help, motivational, social, educational group of adult men of all ages who have migrated to the UK and are surviving the government’s hostile environment. GIANTS is a family, we stand together, grow together. After so many years of holding back, of holding everything together, we can finally share with men who understand what we are going through. We can tell our story and get advice. We can find strength in each other and help to be positive.

In our times of need, GIANTS are there for each other. At immigration court hearings, we stand together. In the good and the bad days, we stand together. I always say: "Praxis is my GP and GIANTS is my medicine". It has made me the man I am today. There is so much joy that comes out of this group. There is a culture of belief.

To us, the members of GIANTS group, this book is a lot more than just a Cookbook. In fact, it is a durable tangible reminder of all the unforgettable memories that we share.

Tim anderson

“With the GIANTS project, Praxis has created something remarkable in how it mitigates issues that face all migrants, fostering connection within their new home country while celebrating and honouring the ones they left behind. I have had the enormous privilege of sitting in on GIANTS sessions and assisting with the editing of this book, and the stories shared have been truly moving, uplifting, and inspiring.”
