Our commitments in the run up to the General Election

An election could be called any day now. And sadly, we know the hateful and divisive language towards migrants and refugees will only get worse once the election is officially called.

That’s why we’re going to keep speaking up. We’re going to keep advocating for migrant rights and campaigning against hostile immigration policies, whichever political party they come from.

We’ll keep on campaigning.

Hostile immigration rules continue to devastate lives, so we’ll continue to work tirelessly to challenge them. We’ll keep on working on our existing campaigns, which include fighting the extortionate visa fees that hundreds of thousands of people are forced to fork out and the exclusionary childcare system that locks out migrant parents from support.

We’ll keep on changing the narrative on migration.

Too often migrants and refugees are spoken for by others, whether it’s journalists or politicians, and their voices are ignored. We’ll continue to support and forefront people impacted by hostile immigration policies to share their stories and experiences with the media.

We’ll keep on mobilising people to support migrant rights.

We’ll share simple ways to support migrants throughout this year with the Praxis community. Whether that’s guides on how to have meaningful and persuasive conversations about migration or sending a message of solidarity to a Praxis campaigner fighting for change.

We’ll keep on presenting our vision of a fairer, more just immigration system.

We believe no one should be marginalised because of their immigration status. All people should be able to live free from poverty, with dignity. We’ll to be ready for a new Government, whoever they are, with a clear set of immediate priorities to get us closer to that vision.
